Welcome
Welcome, friend, to the home of the Pliny Mystery series. Or, as Pliny himself would say, ave, amice. Along with his friend, the historian Cornelius Tacitus, Pliny appears in a series of mysteries set in the Roman Empire in the late first century A. D. You can learn more about these cases and read sample chapters by clicking on the links on this site on the Pliny Mysteries page.
I've been pleased by the response to the Pliny Mysteries. Barbarba D'Amato called the first one, All Roads Lead to Murder, "a wonderful book." The second one, The Blood of Caesar, was named one of the 5 Best Mysteries of 2008 by Library Journal. Publisher's Weekly said the most recent one, The Corpus Conundrum, was a "worthy alternative to the Roman historicals by such better known authors as Steven Saylor and Lindsey Davis." Saylor himself called Corpus Conundrum "inspired . . . . ingenious." The fourth book, Death in the Ashes, appeared in 2013. Publisher's Weekly said "Bell continues to make ancient Rome live and breathe." Kelli Stanley, author of the Roman Noir series, found it a "scintillating mystery . . . suspenseful and riveting." The fifth book, The Eyes of Aurora, is coming out on September 9, 2014. Kirkus called it a "tangled case . . . . colorful . . . . vivid." N. S. Gill said the story is "worth your time."
